Dr. Danny Peterson, a PGY5 in the Royal College Emergency Medicine program at Western University, has carried out a senior specialty year in point of care ultrasound at Western and LHSC over the past 12 months. Dr. Peterson crafted this innovative and dedicated year of training and scholarship to overlap with his emergency medicine training in order to achieve expanded competence in point of care ultrasound. The year long educational endeavor was supervised by Western’s Dr. Robert Arntfield.
He has demonstrated advanced proficiency, scholarship and leadership in point of care ultrasound for applications in emergency department patients. The applications include advanced cardiac and thoracic assessment as well as proficiency in a number of abdominal applications.
In addition to ascending to an advanced level of skill, he has taken on a very exciting research project examining the sweet spot of online education required for novices to interpret broad categories of left ventricular function.
Lastly and most recently, Danny has acquired RDMS certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers. This optional credential is the mark of his focus and ambition and asserts his expertise across a broad array of ultrasound applications.
Dr. Peterson is to be congratulated on his tremendous work, innovation and achievement over the past year. We wish him well as he prepares for his final year of training and to take his admirable skills to the University of Calgary in 2013.
