Robert Arntfield MD, FRCPC, FCCP, FACEP
Associate Professor of Medicine, Western University

Dr. Arntfield is a trained emergency physician, intensivist and traumatologist who is active with point of care ultrasound in all clinical areas.  He is co-author of the textbook: Point-of-Care Ultrasound and is director of the critical care ultrasound program at Western University.  He is a past course leader for the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) critical care ultrasonography program and teaches and lectures on point of care ultrasound throughout the world.  He completed a point of care ultrasound fellowship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York where, in his capacity as an attending physician, he received the Attending of the Year award.  Dr. Arntfield is an adult echocardiography diplomate with the National Board of Echocardiography. Special interests include resuscitative ultrasound, critical care ultrasound and applications of transesophageal echocardiography in critical illness and cardiac arrest.

Drew Thompson MD, FRCPC
Associate Professor of Medicine, Western University

Dr. Thompson is a full time emergency physician and the local lead of the ED ultrasound program at Western’s ED since 2005 and Director of its present day operations.  In addition to being a CEUS master instructor, he has lectured extensively on point of care ultrasound and has special interests in quality assurance and resident education.

Behzad Hassani MD, CCFP-EM
Assistant Professor of Medicine, Western University

Born in Tehran, Iran, Behzad immigrated to Canada in 1999 and completed high school in Ottawa.  He completed his undergraduate degree, medical degree, and three years of residency at University of Toronto, and came to Western University for his Emergency Medicine training.  Behzad is very passionate about POCUS and has served as co-director of the Introductory POCUS course and as instructor of the Critical Care Ultrasound Course for the past two years.  He has taught bedside POCUS as Master IP at several Canadian Institutions for the past three years and has been involved in course design and curriculum development.  He currently acts as the Division of Emergency Medicine POCUS-Advanced Applications Coordinator at Western University and has worked to provide educational opportunities and advanced POCUS training to the staff and residents of the LHSC.

Heather Hames MD, FRCPC
Assistant Professor of Medicine, Western University

Dr. Hames is a recent graduate of the Emergency Medicine program at Western University and a full time emergency physician at London Health Sciences Centre. She helms the position of the Division of Emergency Medicine POCUS – Fundamental Applications Coordinator, tasked with all aspects of introductory training for the point of care ultrasound program. Special interests lie in resident education.

 

Frank Myslik MD, CCFP-EM
Assistant Professor of Medicine, Western University

Dr. Myslik is a full time Emergency Medicine Physician at London Health Sciences Centre. He graduated from the ER program at Western University and then completed a 1-year point of care ultrasound fellowship at the University of Ottawa. He has taught at both national and international courses and is currently working on his Masters of Medical Education with a focus on developing a competency based assessment tool for ultrasound. His area of interests also include TEE, POCUS in Palliative Care and resuscitative ultrasound.

 

Ahmed Hegazy MBBCh, MSc, FRCPC
Assistant Professor of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, Western University

Dr. Hegazy is an anesthesiologist and critical care physician at London Health Sciences Center. He has completed fellowships in cardiac anesthesia, neuroanesthesia, and critical care medicine. He is a board-certified perioperative transesophageal echocardiographer and is the current director of the perioperative ultrasound program at Western University. In addition, he is currently completing an MPH program at the Harvard School of Public Health. He has taught at multiple courses across Canada and leads the annual Perioperative Ultrasound Western workshop. Special interests include perioperative cardiac, lung, and gastric ultrasound, in addition to resuscitation practices and postcardiac arrest care.
